About Bijay
Bijay Gurung was born in Gorkha, the ancestral heartland of the Gurung people and the gateway to the Manaslu trail. Growing up in a Gurung community, he learned mountain culture from the inside: the rhythm of village life, the meaning behind festivals and rituals, the stories carried across generations, and the quiet understanding of when to walk, when to rest, and how to read a changing sky. That upbringing shapes the way he guides today.
His home ground is the Core of Manaslu Region, where he has spent years on the trails, and he knows the Langtang region just as deeply. He brings to each trek a genuine familiarity with the land and its people rather than a script, and he is equally at ease explaining a local custom, adjusting a day's pace to the group's comfort, or simply sharing a pot of tea at a teahouse he has known for years.
As part of the Touch The Himalaya team, Bijay looks after guests from arrival to farewell, working with our trekking crews and local partners to keep every detail running smoothly. His strength is the combination of technical trail knowledge and cultural fluency that only comes from being raised in these mountains, and it is why travellers who walk with him often describe the experience as less of a tour and more of a homecoming.
“The mountains are not just places I guide people through they are my home, my culture, and part of who I am. When I walk these trails with guests, I want them to experience more than the scenery. I want them to feel the stories, traditions, people, and spirit of the Himalayas that I have known since childhood.”- Bijay Gurung
